E-mail marketing usually consists of using e-mail to send ads, request business, or solicit sales, and is meant to build loyalty, trust, and brand awareness. This can be completed through three different e-mail marketing techniques; e-mail newsletters, transactional e-mails, and direct e-mails.

The main purpose of e-mail newsletters is to build upon the relationship of a company with their clienteles, instead of traditional promotional e-mails intended only to inspire the recipient to take action, for example, encouraging them to buy something or sign-up for something.

 

An e-mail newsletter can convey marketing messages or advertisements, but its main goal is to develop a long-term impression on the recipient. It should provide the reader with value, which means more than just sales messages. It should have information which enlightens, amuses or otherwise benefits the recipient. 

 

Transactional e-mails are usually prompted by a consumer’s action with the company. Generated transactional e-mails usually include dropped basket messages, purchase or order confirmation e-mails and e-mail receipts. There are also specialized e-mail marketing services, which provide targeted and personalized transactional e-mail messages and running specific e-mail marketing campaigns, such as customer referral programs.


The main purpose of a transactional e-mail is to deliver information concerning the action that prompted it. But, because of its high open rates, transactional e-mails are an ideal chance to engage consumers. E-mail marketing uses them to present or extend the basic e-mail connection with customers. Transactional e-mails are a great way to anticipate and answer questions or even to cross-sell or up-sell products or services.


Direct e-mail involves sending an e-mail exclusively to communicate a promotional message. It could be an announcement of a special offer, for example, or a catalog of products. Just as a company might have a list of client or potential postal addresses to send their promotions too, they also can assemble a list of client or potential e-mail addresses for their e-mail marketing campaign.


A company can also rent lists of e-mail addresses from service companies. They will allow you to send your e-mail marketing message to their own address lists. These services usually allow you to target your e-mail according to interests or location.


These are all three great e-mail marketing techniques, but you want to make sure you have permission to send consumers any type of e-mail marketing. If you do not get permission your company’s e-mails could be considered spam and it could cause a backlash against your company. You can get permission by having clients sign up for the newsletters on your homepage or even ask them through your transactional e-mails, because e-mail marketing is an inexpensive marketing technique that can target a large group of people to benefit your company.
